The houses in Hampstead

Hampstead is Georgian and Victorian, a lot of it in conservation areas, with period features that people rightly want kept.

The work here has to look like it has always been there. That means matching existing mouldings, picking up the skirting profile and building cupboards that read as part of the room rather than furniture pushed against it.

That is the point of building rather than buying. A wardrobe made for the room goes to the ceiling, into the alcove and up to the skirting, and the awkward bits of the house become storage instead of dead air.

Built for the room, not bought for it

Every job starts the same way: someone comes out, measures the room as it really is, and prices the work. Walls are never quite straight and floors are never quite level, so the parts are made to suit what is actually there and scribed in on site.

That is the difference between a wardrobe that fits Hampstead and one that fits a catalogue.

What people say

5.0 from 7 Google reviews

Max is a brilliant carpenter, and I recommend him wholeheartedly.

He has carried out a varied portfolio of carpentry work for me, in two properties, from 2024 to the present, including building built-in wardrobes, shelving units, and boxing-in for an air conditioning system, removing and reassembling wooden furniture units, fixing doors, fitting door handles, and putting up mirrors and pictures.

Max always finds a way to get the job done to a high standard. He is unfailingly courteous and responsive. Any enquiry to him is acknowledged within one day, often sooner.

Hampstead questions

Do you cover all of Hampstead?

Yes, the whole of NW3 and the streets around it. Travel is included in the price, so there is no mileage charge wherever in the area you are.

Can you build around a chimney breast in a Hampstead house?

That is the most common job there is. An alcove either side of a breast is exactly the shape nothing off a shelf will fit, and exactly the shape a built-in cupboard is for.

Do the wardrobes need painting?

Mostly not. What we fit is usually MFC, which arrives already finished in the colour you picked, so there is nothing to paint and nothing to re-coat later. If a job is built out of MDF and you want it painted, we bring a painter in.

Will the house be full of dust?

There is no such thing as no dust, but there is a lot of difference between a tidy job and a messy one. We sheet up, cut in one place where we can, and clear the room at the end of every day.
