The houses in Borehamwood

Borehamwood grew with the film studios and then grew again as a postwar overspill town, so it is mostly 1950s and 60s housing with a lot of recent flats added around the centre.

Postwar bedrooms were built to a standard, which means square rooms with no alcoves to work with. A full wall of fitted storage, floor to ceiling, is usually the only way to get a real amount in without losing the room.

The studios are still working, and the town around them was built in a few decades rather than gradually.

That is the point of building rather than buying. A wardrobe made for the room goes to the ceiling, into the alcove and up to the skirting, and the awkward bits of the house become storage instead of dead air.

Built for the room, not bought for it

Every job starts the same way: someone comes out, measures the room as it really is, and prices the work. Walls are never quite straight and floors are never quite level, so the parts are made to suit what is actually there and scribed in on site.

That is the difference between a wardrobe that fits a Borehamwood bedroom and one that fits a catalogue.

What people say

Max at Barraclough Carpentry built a bespoke wardrobe for me, and I’m really pleased with the result. He was professional and easy to deal with throughout, and the team he brought along were excellent too. I’d happily recommend them.

Borehamwood questions

Do you cover all of Borehamwood?

Yes, the whole of WD6 and the streets around it. Travel is included in the price, so there is no mileage charge wherever in the area you are.

How much is a fitted wardrobe in Borehamwood?

It depends on the run and how the inside is laid out, so the honest answer is that we need to see the room. The visit and the quote are both free, and the price comes by email afterwards so you have it in writing.

How long will you be in the house?

It depends on the size of the job. You will get the timescale with the price, and the room is cleared at the end of every day rather than left as a building site while the work is going on.

Can you build around a chimney breast in a Borehamwood house?

That is the most common job there is. An alcove either side of a breast is exactly the shape nothing off a shelf will fit, and exactly the shape a built-in cupboard is for.
