The houses in Bushey

Bushey runs from the old village with its Victorian and earlier cottages, through the Edwardian houses left over from the days when Herkomer's art school was here, out to the large interwar and postwar detached houses up at Bushey Heath.

Two different jobs in one town. The village houses need everything scribed because nothing in them is square; the Heath houses have the room for a dressing area rather than a run of doors.

Bushey Heath sits high enough that a lot of the postwar houses up there have rooms in the roof, which is where the awkward sloping-ceiling work tends to be.

That is the point of building rather than buying. A wardrobe made for the room goes to the ceiling, into the alcove and up to the skirting, and the awkward bits of the house become storage instead of dead air.
