Fitted wardrobes and carpentry in Harpenden
Bespoke fitted wardrobes, fitted furniture and made-to-measure joinery in Harpenden and AL5.
The houses in Harpenden
Harpenden is largely Edwardian and interwar and largely generous: big detached and semi-detached houses on wide roads around the commons, with later building further out.
Rooms here are big enough that a run of doors is rarely the best answer. A walk-in or a dressing area makes more of the space, and the question becomes how the inside is laid out rather than whether anything will fit.
The commons running through the middle of the town are why so much of the housing around them was built on generous plots.
That is the point of building rather than buying. A wardrobe made for the room goes to the ceiling, into the alcove and up to the skirting, and the awkward bits of the house become storage instead of dead air.

Built for the room, not bought for it
Every job starts the same way: someone comes out, measures the room as it really is, and prices the work. Walls are never quite straight and floors are never quite level, so the parts are made to suit what is actually there and scribed in on site.
That is the difference between a wardrobe that fits a Harpenden bedroom and one that fits a catalogue.

Max is a brilliant carpenter, and I recommend him wholeheartedly.
He has carried out a varied portfolio of carpentry work for me, in two properties, from 2024 to the present, including building built-in wardrobes, shelving units, and boxing-in for an air conditioning system, removing and reassembling wooden furniture units, fixing doors, fitting door handles, and putting up mirrors and pictures.
Max always finds a way to get the job done to a high standard. He is unfailingly courteous and responsive. Any enquiry to him is acknowledged within one day, often sooner.
Harpenden questions
Do you cover all of Harpenden?
Yes, the whole of AL5 and the streets around it. Travel is included in the price, so there is no mileage charge wherever in the area you are.
Do the wardrobes need painting?
Mostly not. What we fit is usually MFC, which arrives already finished in the colour you picked, so there is nothing to paint and nothing to re-coat later. If a job is built out of MDF and you want it painted, we bring a painter in.
Will the house be full of dust?
There is no such thing as no dust, but there is a lot of difference between a tidy job and a messy one. We sheet up, cut in one place where we can, and clear the room at the end of every day.
Do you work on flats in Harpenden as well as houses?
Yes. Flats are often where a fitted wardrobe earns its keep the most, because the rooms are the most awkward and there is the least floor to spare.
