Fitted wardrobes and carpentry in Chorleywood
Bespoke fitted wardrobes, fitted furniture and made-to-measure joinery in Chorleywood and WD3.
The houses in Chorleywood
Chorleywood is largely detached and largely spacious: Arts and Crafts houses built around the station from the 1890s, then interwar and postwar houses on wooded plots around the common.
The rooms here are big, so the question is usually how the inside is laid out rather than whether a wardrobe will fit. Loft rooms with sloping ceilings and the deep window reveals in the older houses are the two that rule out anything bought.
Chorleywood Common and the houses that went up around the station after 1889 are the reason the village looks the way it does; Voysey built The Orchard here in 1899.
That is the point of building rather than buying. A wardrobe made for the room goes to the ceiling, into the alcove and up to the skirting, and the awkward bits of the house become storage instead of dead air.

Built for the room, not bought for it
Every job starts the same way: someone comes out, measures the room as it really is, and prices the work. Walls are never quite straight and floors are never quite level, so the parts are made to suit what is actually there and scribed in on site.
That is the difference between a wardrobe that fits a Chorleywood bedroom and one that fits a catalogue.

We asked a family friend for a personal recommendation for a reliable and trustworthy carpenter and this is how we came across Max. We were looking for custom built wardrobes to be designed and built in two bedrooms as well as other bits and pieces.
From start to finish, Max has been a godsend. The advice and help provided has been invaluable. The dedication he has to producing work to a very high standard is second to none. On top of this, Max is punctual, hard working and a pleasure to have around. We are so happy with his work that we are now exploring additional projects. Thank you Max!
Chorleywood questions
Do you cover all of Chorleywood?
Yes, the whole of WD3 and the streets around it. Travel is included in the price, so there is no mileage charge wherever in the area you are.
Can you build around a chimney breast in a Chorleywood house?
That is the most common job there is. An alcove either side of a breast is exactly the shape nothing off a shelf will fit, and exactly the shape a built-in cupboard is for.
Do the wardrobes need painting?
Mostly not. What we fit is usually MFC, which arrives already finished in the colour you picked, so there is nothing to paint and nothing to re-coat later. If a job is built out of MDF and you want it painted, we bring a painter in.
Will the house be full of dust?
There is no such thing as no dust, but there is a lot of difference between a tidy job and a messy one. We sheet up, cut in one place where we can, and clear the room at the end of every day.
