A small market town with a Victorian centre, a good number of estate cottages built by the Rothschilds, and postwar housing around the edges.
The older cottages have low ceilings and walls that have moved, so everything is cut to the room. The estate cottages are solidly built but small, which puts a premium on using height rather than floor.
The Rothschild estate shaped much of the town, and a lot of the older housing came with it.
That is the point of building rather than buying. A wardrobe made for the room goes to the ceiling, into the alcove and up to the skirting, and the awkward bits of the house become storage instead of dead air.

It depends on the size of the job. You will get the timescale with the price, and the room is cleared at the end of every day rather than left as a building site while the work is going on.

That is the most common job there is. An alcove either side of a breast is exactly the shape nothing off a shelf will fit, and exactly the shape a built-in cupboard is for.
